Janet Kuypers poem "Under the Sea" Galapapagos video collage
Janet Kuypers reads the original poem "Under the Sea", set to a collage of vifeos and photos by Janet Kuypers and John Yotko in the Galapagos Islands in the end of December, 2007. The ocean video was shot by Janet Kuypers between the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific ocean. The photos of Janet Kuypers (both underwater and looking at a lea lion) were photograpghed by John Yotko. The reference to a "soft-shelled crab" is actually video of a Sally Lightfoot, shot by John Yotko on December 26th 2007 at Punta Cormorant at Floreana Island (in the Galapagos Islands). The reference to "hurdling over a turtle" shows video shot by john Yotko of a giant tortoise 12/27/07 at the Highlands in Santa Cruz Island (in the Galapagos Islands). The dolphin footage was filmes by Janet Kuypers of 4 dolphins swimming with them in the Pacific Ocean. The reference to "seeing a Manatee" doesn't actually have manatee footage in it (they're touch to catch on film in the Galapagos Islands), so the video footage in this parto f the poem is from John Yotko 12/28/07 of a sea lion walking from the beach to lava 12/28/07 at James Bay, on Santiago Island (in the Galapagos Islands). And the video footage in the last line of the poem (if only I could swim!) was shot of a grotto (with water exploding) 12/28/07 at James Bay, on Santiago Island (in the Galapagos Islands). This poem was originally written in 1979, but Janet Kuypers thought that with all of the wildlife photography and video footage shot in the Galapagos Islands when Janet Kuypers and John Yotko visited the Galapagos Islands for Christmas in 2007, this would be a hysterical poem to read to a video/photo collage of what they saw at the Galapagos Islands. For more information on the writing of Janet Kuypers (or artwork, including photography form the Galapagos Islands), go to http://www.janetkuypers.com to read more of her work. This is the original poem:Under the Sea I'd like to be Under the sea To see the fish go swim, I'd like to squish A jelly fish And then let go of him. I'd like to grab A soft-shelled crab And take him for a walk I'd like to hurdle Over a turtle And teach dolphins to talk. I'd like to see A manatee And then go play by him, I'd like to do All of these things If only I could swim!
